Working Offline

Vision can be used offline without Single Sign On (SSO) if required. Working offline is discouraged as it is advantageous for all staff to be using the same methods at all times. Offline working can cause inconsistencies in registration procedures and opportunities to update the Personal Demographic Service (PDS) can be missed by working offline.

Offline Working allows clinical data to be viewed or recorded but does not give any access to national applications, for example, you cannot make bookings through the e-Referral Service, update or receive updates from the PDS or prescribe via the Electronic Prescription Service (EPS). You are therefore, strongly encouraged to work online at all times.

To use Vision offline:

  1. From your desktop, double click on the Vision icon .
  2. The Gemscript Authenticate screen displays, select Cancel.
  3. The System Error screen displays, select Work Offline:

In the event of failure to connection to the national network, the same System Error screen displays, this warns you that national services are not available and any changes to a patient's registration details are not synchronised with the PDS.

  4. The Vision Login screen displays for you to enter your user name and password:

Note - When working offline, in Consultation Manager, patient records display with (OFFLINE) after the patient's name on the title bar.
